Pakistan Ordnance Factories

Background

POF was founded in 1951 with the primary objective of producing arms and ammunition for the armed forces of Pakistan. At the same time it was entrusted with the responsibility of running these Factories on sound commercial lines and utilizing the spare capacities for meeting the requirements of civil sector and exports.

Today it is a sprawling complex of fourteen production units and six subsidiaries producing conventional arms & ammunition. R & D projects have been undertaken to minimize dependence while efforts have been made towards self-reliance through innovation and indigenization, for achieving the following:-

  1. Optimal utilization of surplus capacity of POF.
  2. Generation of funds to supplement budget grant.
  3. Participative Collaboration with Private Sector.
  4. Enhancing Exports

The active role of established defence industries in the development and support of private sector cannot be over emphasized. POF the premier Defence Industry and the life line to the Pakistan Armed Forces has always faced the challenges in the industrial sector be it in the realm of development of new products or for enhancing capacities and reducing foreign dependence.


During his recent visit to POF the honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Shaukat Aziz praised POFs role as the mother defence industry in Pakistan and highly appreciated steps taken towards commercialization.
The Prime Minister’s tribute to POF during his visit was

“POF is an island of excellence for Pakistan. POF and its employees have played a critical and valuable role in bolstering Pakistan’s defence. We are all proud of what you have achieved. I wish you continued success in the future”.

POF has taken a major stride in this direction and today a host of activities related to commercialization are taking place in side and out side POF. A team of young marketers is actively communicating with the Industries, promoting POFs ability and selecting Engineering items for development and mass production at POF.

The mission given by chairman POF board is to create an atmosphere of trust and confidence between POF & Industrial sector.

Today POF’s capabilities are being affectively harnessed to meet the requirement of a large cross section of industries and the Sectors targeted are:
